Charlie Black is sweet, well meaning and plunges headlong and determinedly from one relationship to the next. She’s found ‘The One’ though and she’s announced to her family that she’s bringing her to her sister’s wedding. And then she got dumped. In desperation, she turns to a professional escort service and hilarity (and true love) ensues.
The Plus One was short, sweet, funny and cute. I loved it. The characters were so well written, and the down to earth writing was lovely. It was like chick lit, but without horrible gender politics and with an adorable lesbian/bi couple.
Natasha West has a writing style that I really enjoy, and her books have a ‘Britishness’ that I find it hard to put my finger on. The best way I can define it would be if you compare a good American sitcom, to a good British sitcom, that’s like the difference between a Melissa Brayden book, and one by Natasha West.
