In the Company of Women by Kate Christie

In the Company of Women is set in Fort Bliss, Texas. Caroline “CJ” Jamieson has signed up with the Women’s Army Corps and is off to work as an aircraft mechanic. On arrival at Fort Bliss, she is bowled over by Brady Buchanan, a WAC enlistee working in administration on the base.

I really wanted to love this. It has women in uniform in WWII. Awesome W.A.S.Ps! I would love to have had more about the W.A.S.Ps, in fact, they seemed like a lot more fun than the heroines.

I enjoyed it, but the characters didn’t really grab me the way I expected them to. It almost read as though I was supposed to be more interested in the history and the setting than the characters and romance, but then didn’t go into as much detail as I would have wanted for a ‘life and times’ type book. I would have liked either-or, but for me it ended up as somewhere in between and disappointing as both. A real shame!
